Kiss. Rock And Roll Over (1976)

Rock and Roll Over is the fifth studio album and sixth overall by hard rock band Kiss.

Unlike Destroyer, which was recorded with members of the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, Rock and Roll Over was recorded by just Stanley, Frehley, Simmons, and Criss. The album was a return to the more straight-ahead rock sound heard on the group's first three albums.

In order to achieve the required drum sound for Rock and Roll Over, Peter Criss played in a bathroom at the Star Theatre and communicated with the rest of the band via a video link. Criss's vocals are featured on the track, "Hard Luck Woman." Paul Stanley, who originally wanted the song to be sung by Rod Stewart, gave it to Peter Criss, who possessed a similar voice, after Simmons insisted Criss sing the song instead. Although the single did not equal the success of "Beth," it did become another Top 20 single for the group. Rock and Roll Over was the first Kiss album to ship gold, and from there had a meteoric rise to double platinum status.

The original LP release included a replica of the cover art as a set of peel-off stickers.

It was certified Platinum on January 5, 1977, when it sold 1,000,000 copies

Kiss. Unmasked (1980)

Unmasked is an album by the American band Kiss released in 1980. It is the group's 14th album (not counting compilations). At the time it was the last studio album from the original lineup of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, although Criss actually had no involvement with the recording of the album. Anton Fig (uncredited) played all drums on the album. This album marked one departures for Kiss:This was the first album since "Love Gun" (not counting solos) to not feature all members on vocals.

Although the album reached #35 on the U.S. Billboard chart and was certified gold, it marked a major departure musically for the band. The album was the group's most pop-oriented to date, and Kiss fans have a love-hate relationship with Unmasked to this day. While some rate it as a misunderstood gem, others view it as another nail in the coffin of the classic Kiss sound.

The band filmed a promotional video for "Shandi," with Peter Criss. It was the last time Criss appeared with Kiss in any capacity until he performed with them at a Kiss Convention on June 17, 1995. In the band's authorized biography, Criss revealed that he was the last one left in the band's dressing room after filming, and broke down crying.

A lip-synched German television performance of "Talk to Me" and "She's So European" featured the debut of Eric Carr, who became the band's permanent drummer until his death in 1991. The band would play a concert at the now defunct Palladium Theatre in New York to officially introduce Carr as Criss' permanent replacement in the band.

It was certified Gold on July 30, 1980, when it sold 500,000 copies

Kiss. Psycho Circus (1998)

Psycho Circus is a 1998 album by the American hard rock band Kiss. It is also the last full studio album of new material from Kiss to date.

It was certified Gold on October 22, 1998, when it sold 500,000 copies

The track "You Wanted the Best" is the only Kiss song in which lead vocals are shared by the entire lineup.

Following Kiss' hugely successful 1996-1997 reunion tour, Psycho Circus was touted as the first album by the band's original lineup since 1979's Dynasty. As with Dynasty and 1980's Unmasked, however, a lot of the songs were recorded by uncredited players. It is now known that guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss were used sparingly, with Criss only playing drums on "Into the Void." (He had also played on only one Dynasty track). Frehley only played on two songs from the album (not including vocals).

The replacement of Criss and Frehley on a Kiss album was nothing new. Frehley had been replaced on songs as early as 1976's Destroyer. Criss was entirely absent from Unmasked, despite being pictured on the album's cover. The same was true for Frehley on 1982's Creatures of the Night. But at the time of those albums, Kiss managed to keep a lid on the personnel changes. With Psycho Circus, rumors concerning who played what were circulating prior to the album's release. Many Kiss fans voiced disappointment at the ruse.

Despite the controversy, Psycho Circus was the band's first Top 10 album since 1993's Alive III, their highest charting album - at #3, and was certified gold.

  1. "Psycho Circus" (Paul Stanley, Curtis Cuomo) – 5:30

Kiss. Music From "The Elder" (1981)

Music from "The Elder" is a 1981 concept album released by the American hard rock band Kiss. It was an attempt on the part of the group to establish Kiss as credible artists, and also to reverse the trend of declining album sales and commercial popularity that had begun in 1979. Instead, the album further served to alienate the group's fan base and represents the commercial nadir of the group.

To date, Music from "The Elder" is one of only two Kiss studio albums to fail to earn any US certification (the other is 1997's Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions). Album sales were so poor that the group did not embark on a supporting tour for the first time in the group's eight-year history, opting instead to make a handful of promotional appearances.

In addition to seriously damaging the band's commercial viability, Music from "The Elder" was the last Kiss album that lead guitarist and co-founder Ace Frehley participated in. Frehley, who was frustrated with the creative direction the band chose, as well as with the production of Bob Ezrin, stopped actively participating in Kiss by early 1982 and was officially out of the group by November 1982.

Track Listing

  1. "Fanfare" (Bob Ezrin, Paul Stanley) – 1:21
  2. "Just A Boy" (Stanley, Ezrin) – 2:25
  3. "Odyssey" (Tony Powers) – 5:36
  4. "Only You" (Gene Simmons) – 4:17

  10. "Escape From The Island" (Frehley, Ezrin, Carr) – 2:52

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons contacted former members Peter Criss and Ace Frehley and invited them to participate in the event.
