Tom Petty. Full Moon Fever (1989)

Full Moon Fever is the "solo" debut album by Tom Petty, though it actually features many of the Heartbreakers, along with members of the Traveling Wilburys. Due to this, the album is often referred to as Vol. 2 of the Wilburys. The record shows Petty's musical roots and influences with a Byrds cover ("I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better") and a nod to Del Shannon ("Runnin' Down a Dream"'s lyric of me and Del were singin' "Little Runaway"). The album features one of Petty's most popular and recognizable songs, "Free Fallin'," which has appeared in several film soundtracks, and was sampled by De La Soul, and Teenage Fanclub for their 1994 collaboration "Fallin'". The song "I Won't Back Down" was used as George W. Bush's campaign song in the 2000 Presidential Election, until Petty found out and threatened to sue. Later, Jim Webb used the song for his successful bid for one of Virginia's U.S. Senate seats in 2006.
